What Is Self Awareness? (Reasons To Unlock Yours)

What is self awareness?
Plain and simple definition of Self Awareness is the practice
of paying attention in the present moment to what is happening
inside your body and your mind as well as in your
immediate surroundings.

This living with a quiet mind creates a state of pure bliss that
comes from being entirely in the moment.

Truly nothing matters but the present.

Self Awareness Definition

Self Awareness is knowing yourself, your character, behavior,
your feelings,
your desires, and motives.

Self Awareness allows you to understand other people, how they perceive you, your attitude and your responses to them at the moment.

But along the way, living in this fast and demanding world, we
tend to forget to take care of our body, our relationships,
family, our feelings.

The development of Self Awareness shape Individuals to become conscious of themselves.

Why Does Self Awareness Matter?

Because having good Self Awareness can change your life,
the way you think, the way you live.

Normally you would say, but How?

Below we’ll explore what is Self Awareness exactly &
how to tell if you’re self-aware.

I will share some insights and discoveries that helped me personally to change the way I Think, my views on Life and growth as a person in the last 4 years.

Self Awareness is the first step in taking controlof your life, creating what you want, and mastering your future.

Where you choose to focus your energy, emotions, personality and reactions determine where you will end up in life.

Energy flows where attention goes. What you focus on tends to grow.

  • It’s a critical tool to help you reach higher levels of job satisfaction,
  • become a better leader,
  • improve relationships with colleagues,
  •  manage your emotions better.
  • It’s also proven that has a positive impact with higher levels of overall happiness.

Luckily, self awareness can be practiced and cultivated,
that means it’s not a fixed trait.

Self Awareness Activities & Skills

Practice being a good listener

Listening is not the same as hearing.

Listening is about being present and paying attention to other people’s emotions, body movement, and language.

It is about showing empathy and understanding without constantly evaluating or judging.

When you become a good listener, You will also be better at listening to youro wn inner voice and become the best friend of yourself.

Practice Gratitude

Cultivate the habit of being grateful for every good thingt hat comes to you, and to give thanks continuously.

Write a specific and clearly defined Gratitude list ofat least 3 things You’re Grateful daily.

When You start to actively, continuously appreciating the good things around you, some amazing things will happen for you &
You’ll feel the difference in no time.

Motivating those around you with a positive word, Can do wonders for you.

People will love to hang out with you & appreciate you more.

-Using the power of a Smile-

The endpoint is to reverse the tone of a situation.

First Time I learned & implement this was weird.

I randomly choose 10 people who I will smile, who didn’t even

know me.

The Result was that 7 of those 10 smiled back, So I figured
“if I smile more“only good things can happen &
people will like wise smile at me more.

Being friendly to those you don’t know is powerfuland slowly but steadily builds your self-confidence.

When you focus on yourself, rather than your environment,
you compare yourself with your standards of truths.

These standards of truths specify how you ought to think, feel, and behave.
They are, essentially, your beliefs and values, known as your Ideals.

Because for example, you might think you’re a good speaker or lovely person to be in company with others, but the truth may be that you’re Boring as F**k.

It could be that you are hurting someone, especially hurting yourself, by the way of your speech, actions, thoughts.

Recognizing your good vs bad skills is the key.
Normally when you KNOW that you need improvement
in some areas, most of us will automatically try to respond,
correct and improve in those areas.

Just take the time to analyze yourself, analyze how other
people are perceiving you.

Ask your family, friends, what annoys them most about you?
Ask them what are they enjoying the most about you?

You will feel pride or dissatisfaction depending on
the answers to these questions.
If you’re dissatisfied, don’t let stress and negative feelings to attack you right away.

Make changes to your behavior and actions to better align with your standards, simply because you got nothing to lose.

So Are you willing to Recognize your Strong-Weak Skills & Improve or Develop Them?

Practice Spending Time With Yourself

  • It’s not easy to reflect on yourself when you’ve got the TV draining your 4-5 hours daily precious time.
  • If you’re constantly on your phone, or
  • Out to dinner with friends with NO meaningful conversation.
  • You Must  give yourself space & time to self-reflect,and be distraction free in those moments. What worked for me was I scheduled an exact time every day where I’m Self -Reflecting on what I’ve done &
what needs to be done that I love doing.

Now in this time frame I give myself, I develop & Improve on:

  • reading,
  •  writing,
  •  meditation,
  • workout <20 minutes daily
  • going out at least 15 minutes with my dog,
  •  what do I love to Eat today.

These activities are all important to Connect with yourself.
Also by acquiring this as a habit, you simply give your brain the information what you want, love and enjoy doing.

Your Love & Interests doesn’t have to be similar to mine.
You know best what fits you and what you love doing.

Our Actions Are Connected With Our Thoughts

As you might know,  we are acting out our thoughts.
The way we behave, act, react or feel is because we are constantly telling ourselves something to behave, act & react the way we do.
Being aware of this gives you an opportunity to make changes in your behavior, beliefs & actions.

While you develop and learn what is self awareness, your own personal thoughts and interpretations will begin to change.

This change in mental state will also alter your emotions and increase your emotional intelligence, which is an important factor in achieving overall well-being & Feeling good about yourself.

Your brain and your body will always send you clues, all you need is the awareness to read them!

It is wise to hear what we are saying to ourselves. Don’t You think?

Are you willing to spend more time with yourself after reading this?

Self Awareness TEST

You can try this 5 simple question quiz, that takes approximately
4 or less to go through and determine your level of awareness.

What Is Introspection In Psychology?

Self awareness has a huge role in the therapeutic process of counseling.
When one is able & willing to gain a greater understanding of themselves through the input of a Therapist, it leads to self-discovery, self-knowledge, self-love, self-esteem.

Introspection is a journey of self-discovery, as one observes their own thought patterns and how they affect their mood and behavior.

Introspecting one’s own thoughts and feelings builds self-knowledge, and doing this consistently for a longer period provides an
objective & truth opinion during the observation.

Self awareness Examples

Most disappointing fact is that we tend to listento others about something that brings no true value to us and give advice, but we simply don’t have the time for ourselves and for our real needs.

If you start experimenting with people you will see 95% of all people have regrets of the past.

Someone regrets some decision they make 5-10 years ago, some the chance they had to gain something, and so on.

Which opens the question I like to ask myself, Can any good come if this regret keeps spinning in my head?

or Why do I keep thinking about this past experience?

These are powerful questions that if you decide to use it constantly when you are facing regrets or past painful memories it can really become a powerful tool for yourself and shift you in the right direction.

-Negative World-

Now the reason that we’re visualizing negative situations in our life is because let’s not kid ourselves, we’re living in a negative world.

Example: So if I say, “Jack, how are you feeling today?”

He says, “Good, fine.”

And I ask him the next day how he feels, and he says,

I Feel Terrible.

I’ve got a pain in my stomach and I ache all over.

“And he goes into a motion…you’d think he was an actor.

He can describe a negative situationin his body so wonderfully.

But when he feels good, he just says, “Fine.”

How come, people when they feel fine, they don’t say, “I feel great;

I feel wonderful; I feel so great that I expect all the wonderful things in the world to happen to me today!

Why Is Self Awareness Important?

Self-awareness is important because accurate self-awareness is essential for optimal daily life activities, as it allows adapting individual behavior to different situations according to one’s actual abilities.

Self-awareness allows us to know what our limitations are & allows us to make choices based on our capabilities.

When we focus our attention on ourselves, we evaluate and compare our current behavior to our internal standards and values.

We become self-conscious as objective evaluators of ourselves.

Furthermore, self-awareness goes beyond merely accumulating knowledge about ourselves.

It is also about paying attention to our inner state with a beginner’s mind and an open heart.

Our mind is extremely skillful at storing information about how we react to a certain event to form a blueprint of our emotional life.

A number of researches have shown self-awareness as a crucial trait of successful business leaders.

In a study undertaken by Green Peak Partners and Cornell University examining 72 executives at public and private companies with revenues from $50 million to $5 billion, it was found that “a high self-awareness score was the strongest predictor of overall success”.

When we focus our attention on ourselves, we evaluate and compare our current behavior to our internal standards and values.

We become self-conscious as objective evaluators of ourselves.

Most of the time we are simply “not there” to observe ourselves.

In other words, we are not there to pay attention to what’s going

on inside or around us.

Let’s say you wake up and immediately think for whatever reason or for no particular reason at all that today is going to be a terrible day,

your attitude might make your prediction come true.

You may unconsciously work to affirm your belief by ignoring the positive, amplifying the negative, and behaving in ways that are unlikely to contribute to an enjoyable day.

Take the time and observe what are you thinking

right after you’ll wake up for the next 5 days?

Self Awareness Quotes

Self-awareness is the ability to take an honest look at your life
without any attachment to it being right or wrong, good or bad.
-Debbie Ford

Self-awareness is a trait – or maybe ‘practice’ is the more accurate way & everyone can always improve at.
It is part emotional intelligence, part perceptiveness, part critical thinking. It means knowing your weaknesses, of course, but it also means knowing your strengths and what motivates you.
-Neil Blumenthal

Everything that irritates us about others can lead us to
an understanding of ourselves.
Carl Gustav Jung

Strong people have a strong sense of self-worth and self-awareness…
they don’t need the approval of others.
Roy T. Bennett

At the center of your being you have the answer, you know who you are
and you know what you want.
Lao Tzu

Self Awareness VS Emotional Intelligence

To thrive in your life you need to have the ability to recognize your emotions and regulate them firmly.

Emotional intelligence is a powerful tool that you can use to handle the most uncomfortable situations.

Self-awareness is the key cornerstone of emotional intelligence.

The ability to monitor our emotions and thoughts from moment to moment is key to understanding, being at peace with who we areand proactively managing ourthoughts, emotions, and behaviors.

As human beings, we may never fully understand ourselvesif there is such a destination.

But perhaps it is the journey of exploring, understanding and becoming ourselves that makes life worth living.

So if self-awareness is so important, why aren’t we more self-aware?

Self-awareness has been called “arguably the most fundamental issue in psychology, from both a developmental and an evolutionary perspective.

All of this brings us to conclude:
People who focus on building both internal and external
self-awareness, who seek honest feedback can learn
to see themselves more clearly and reap many rewards long-term.

In short:

If you’re not self-aware, you’ll cause more suffering to others.
This, in turn, will bring more suffering back to you.

If everyone becomes more self-aware, there will be
less suffering in the world.
And that’s a pretty good world, worth living, Don’t You Think?

We see a lot of unhappy Rich people lately and ask ourselves how come is this possible.

Well, we live in a time where the majority of people associate and connect Succesful with Money.

When you associate success only with money, you simply miss the opportunity to Enjoy & Experience life at its best.

What is self awareness in your words and
what’s the role awareness in your professional and personal life?
